People have told you multiple times that you'll regret selling it.

It's probably worth it; I don't know how fast it would sell at that price though.

Ya and I kinda am thinking about not have it totally rebuilt and then doing the ,long haul on the Power Tour, cause its supposedly gonna come through Madison IL (Gateway Motorsports park) this year but Im gonna go from start to finish.

What else can you get for 22k that's better?

Nothing comes to mind immediately.

Transmissions are cheap to rebuild on old stuff. I remember you mentioning that it needed to be rebuilt soon.

Differentials are also easy, especially Ford ones since they so commonly used.

Ya it also needs new paint, the driver and passenger seat redone, new driver side and passenger speakers, new exhaust, new undercoat/paint, maybe a new radio, and a new passenger side shoulder belt.

like that bill will be in the ball park of 5-6k

I wouldn't worry about paint. Don't be too hard on it, it's 41 years old.

Interior problems are relatively minor in the grand scheme of things. Seats are easy, just a cover which you can buy and stretch over the springs. Use some hog rings to hold it down.

I wouldn't worry about the radio; after market radios always look stupid in classics. Who needs it when you've got a good sounding exhaust anyway.

You WILL regret selling it.

A friend of mine stopped by today in a 68 Camaro "drag car". He paid $15k. About $7k too much.

Yours?

If it's as solid as it looks and original. I'd start at $27k and get beat down to 20-22.

If it needs that much work I think 22K might be a little optimistic. with all those things fixed I would say it would be totally worth it. But like the others said I think you will regret selling it.

What you have there is one of the most desirable fords IMO I would love a Torino, it's Fords answer to the Chevelle and me being a Ford guy I would take the Torino any day before a Chevelle.

the paint was reapinted 20 years ago and the radio im looking at is a Retrosound one so it will look like the OEM one. and the seats are like 400 for the pair

Also for you to note the Torino outsold the Chevelle by 2 million in 72-73

I did not know that? Then how come Torinos are so much harder to find?

If it was a mint 68-69 you might get that much, but needing the tiny bit of TLC that it needs, its a bit optimistic. Also, and I'm not of this mindset by the way, most people tend to steer towards the earlier cars, probably because of the lack of huge bumpers and smog motors What engine did it originally come with? Factory GT?

Just my two cents, I still think you should just keep the car.

I'm just saying that someone spending that type of money will want to car to be pretty much in top shape. But in saying that fix all those things and you can probably get more than 22K. When you are in this price range people would rather spend a bit more and get a perfect car rather than a little less for a car that needs work.

I'm not saying your car is not worth it I'm just giving my point of view of how I as a buyer would see this.

It is a nice car, but at 22K you are really looking for the right buyer, and that would take forever, if at all. I am thinking 10-12K for that body style. Even the more desirable earlier years aren't fetching 22K. I had a Ranchero GT with 20K original miles on it that I bought for 5 and sold for 9 after some work. If you can get north of 15 for it do it all day

rancheros are more niche then a Torino would be. Also I have all the paper work from factory like build sheet electrical inspection sheet owners book and the second owners like odometer statement from 73 along with other goodies and so far the car is all original besides paint and engine rebuild

best thing you can do is put a 22K reserve on it on ebay and see what it fetches. I did quite a bit of research on that previous comment I made, if you see 15 I will be stunned. Haggerty's put the avg value at 10,000, and I see the mintiest ones at 12 grand or less. The paperwork is cool, but doesn't make it worth significantly more than the rest of the pack. Not trying to crush your dreams or be a dick, you did ask and I did a valuation.

Hagerty doesn't have the Q-Code engine as an option when it was they only have the 302(last time I looked) so really they arnt a reliable source IMO

ah ok, well I was unaware of the 429 living in there. I had the 400 in my Ranchero. In that case the price would be higher. Might be worth it to fix all the issues though, especially the paint. It looks pretty good in the pics, will it not take a good compounding and polish?

Q code is a 351 Cleveland, right?

in 1973 the Q-Code was the 351 CJ motor the 429 engine code for that year I think was N

ah q was earlier for the 429. Most of the ones I spotted around the country for <12K were 351. I did find a few 429's in project shape for 5-7, but no minty fresh ones

I'd add 10% on top of the Hagerty estimate for the 302. That's what the typical rule of thumb appears to be, like a slantnose on a Porsche 930 or a 396/375 vs a 396/350 in a Camaro.

Not scientific but better than a total wild ass guess.

Ya the 429 from 1972-73 was nothing compared to the 351CJ of the time the 429 lost all of its compression to meet emission standards also the prime mover for the Torino was a 351 2bbl that was really gutless. the 351CJ was the only good engine for 1972-73.
